RBI to open its branch in Itanagar

ITANAGAR, Feb 12: Sleepy Karsingsa village located along NH52 (A) today came to life with the visit of Reserve Bank of India deputy governor Shyamala Gopinath. The whole village turned up to welcome her with colourful cultural programmes. Despite minor hitches, programme turned out to be huge success story for the RBI’s outreach programme aimed at educating rural masses about banking sectors. The most intriguing part of the day was the interaction session between villagers and representatives of various banks. RBI deputy governor Shyamala Gopinath herself led the session and had open discussion with the villagers. Overwhelmed by love and adulation showered by villagers of Karsingsa she said, “I always knew Arunachal is a beautiful state but today I got know that people of this state are equally beautiful at heart.”
Discussing in details about RBI’s outreach programme she told, “RBI conducts such kind of programme in all North Eastern states so that every villages of the region has access in banking facilities. This year we have chosen Karsingsa village for this programme and hope it will benefit the villagers.”
Further she informed that till date 95% of household in North East region do not have access to banking facilities and they are working to change this trend.
Also a news which will bring cheers to every Arunachalee. The Deputy Governor informed the huge gathering that RBI will open its independent branch in Itanagar. “We are planning to open a RBI branch in Itanagar as soon as possible. Initially we will start with one department and later we will keep the option of expansion. But we will need state government’s help in this regard,” stated Shyamala Gopinath. She also assured look into the demands of giving preference to indigenous tribal while recruiting workforce RBI branch.
Also present during the day were representatives of different public sectors banks. Surekha Marandi, regional director, RBI, RG Garg, CGM, SBI, AK Srivatsava, chief manager, NABARD, B B Sangma banking ombudsman of North East, Swati Sharma, special secretary finance, government of Arunachal Pradesh, officials of Arunachal Pradesh Rural Bank, Apex Bank were present during the day.
Later in a ceremony six villagers of Karsingsa were given new SBI saving passbook. In his address SBI CGM RK Garg acknowledged the fact that customers in Arunachal is facing some problem but assured that they will look into all the problems in coming days.
34th National Games gets off to a colourful start

RANCHI, Feb 12: The 34th National Games got off to a colourful start with Jharkhand Governor MOH Farook declaring the much awaited Games open in a packed stadium of about 35,000 audience here this afternoon.
Welcoming the sportspersons, officials invited dignitaries, Farrok said that it is a red letter day for the people of Jharkhand.
“It is the best opportunity for the sportspersons to show their talents”, Farrok said, and urged them to avail it. He said that infrastructure built here for the Games were among best in the country and it will be used for development of sports in the state.
The Governor later released the Games souvenir.
Chief Minister Arjun Munda appealed to the people of the country to forget about torrid build up to the Games, which missed deadline several times, singing the popular patriotic song “Chodo Kalki Batein Kalki Baat Purani, Nai Daur Mein Likhenge Milkar Nai Kahani, Hum Hindustani, Hum Hindustani.”
Indian Olympic Association president Suresh Kalmadi said that this Games got importance as Indian contingent for the ensuing Olympic Games would be selected on the basis of performance in this Games. He informed that over 10,000 sportspersons are participating the Games. He also asserted that the infrastructure provided here are among the best in the world.

The first hour of the opening ceremony was all about march past by the sportspersons from 25 states and 8 union territories. If this was the state of things in Assam, a state the PM represented in Parliament, one would have to think about the level of corruption and governance under the UPA II in the country, he added.

Land donor committee supports decision of admn.
ITANAGAR, Feb 12: Koloriang Land Donor Committee in its meeting held at Koloriang today unanimously resolved to support the initiatives taken up by the Deputy Commissioner Kurung Kumey district against illegal encroachment of public land.
The meeting chaired by its president Nikja Tayo and attended by committee members and senior leaders appealed the local administration to maintain the terms and condition which was laid earlier in between the land donors and the government.
While appreciating the Kurung Kumey DC for prohibiting illegal encroachment of land donated by the public, the committee further decided to extend full support to the government for area development, peace and prosperity.

EC recommends increase in election expenses of candidates
ACR chief stresses on voters awareness
Chennai, Feb 12: Chief Election Commissioner S Y Quraishi today said the EC has recommended to the Centre to increase the election expenses of candidates contesting the Lok Sabha and the state Assembly polls.
In a brief chat with newspersons after addressing the 12th National Conference on Electoral and Political Reforms at the IIT, Madras, campus here, he said the EC had recommended hike in the election expenses of candiates contesting the Lok Sabha polls from the present Rs 25 lakh to Rs 40 lakh.
For those contesting the Assembly polls, the EC has recommended a hike up to Rs 16 lakh from the present Rs 10 lakh, he added.
Stating that ration cards would not be allowed as a proof of identity for voting during the polls, Quraishi said as an alternative any of the 13 identity proofs, recognised by the EC could be used as proof for voting.
On introducing 'voter's slip' system in the Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) to enable the voters to get an acknowledgement to whom a voter has voted, Quraishi said the EC was considering it. ''But it might not be possible to introduce it in the coming elections,'' he opined.

GASA appeals for permanent guest house
ITANAGAR, Feb 12: The Gawahati Arunachal Students Association has appealed to the state Govt for immediate construction of the permanent guest house at the land allotted by the Assam Govt.
Pointing out the poor infrastructure facilities of the present Arunachal Bhawan located at Zoo Tinali, Narangi road, the Union said the Bhawan has no adequate accommodation facilities, parking place. While other states of the North East have been running their own guest houses successfully in Guwahati, on the other hand the Arunachal Pradesh Govt is still housing the Bhawan in a building that has been taken on lease, it said.
Though Assam Govt had allotted land for the construction of guest house during 1994, the Arunachal Pradesh Govt could not grasp the opportunities and due to careless on the part of the Govt the plot of land was occupied by the people, the union claimed. However, the Assam Govt reallotted the land in 2004 for the same purpose, it added. The union appealed the Arunachal Govt to think seriously for proper use of the allotted land and construction of a guest house for the convenient of the Arunachalee people at the earliest.
Army conduct free veterinary camp

A team of two doctors and five veterinary dressers from 11 Mobile field Veterinary Hospital examined the domestic animals and cattle of the 14 villages of the sub division. Free medicines, checkup and vaccines were provided to the livestock to curb the diseases in domestic animals and a small awareness talk was also given on live stock rearing and core.

AAPGDLU reacts, threatens stir
ITANAGAR, Feb 12: All Arunachal Pradesh Government Departmental Labours Union in a memorandum to Chief Minister said that the APB&OCWWB labour benefits were announced by labour commissioner on May 1 last year and the same benefits has been focussed by publishing in New Year calendar for the welfare of the working class.
It further said that the APB&OCWWB chairman is misusing the power and function of the board and also made false promises to labourers like honorary loan, medical advance, marriage assistance, and housing allowances.
It demanded the CM to change or drop the board chairman within 15 days and threaten to launch a dharna if their demand is not fulfilled.

ITANAGAR, Feb 12: Members of All Upper Subansiri District Students Union (AUSDSU) recently visited PWD garage store in Dumporijo town and stopped illegal construction of building there. While condemning such illegal encroachment of Govt properties, the union urged authorities to carry out investigation in this regard. Deendayal Upadhaya, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Arunachal Pradesh has constituted its Tawang district unit with Sirpu Lama, president, Lama Yeshi and Rinchin Phuntso, vice presidents, Mindu Gyatso and Yeshi as general secretaries. ITANAGAR, Feb 12: The 3rd education tour of the All Tawang District Students Union (ATDSU) concluded at Lumla today.
During the tour, ATDSU team covered almost all schools in remote villages of the district and collected various information regarding the condition of the schools and poor villagers. ANSU election
ITANAGAR, Feb 12: Scrutinization cum hearing process for forthcoming ANSU election ended today. The scrutinization of candidates and voters list was carried out by chief election commissioner Takam Tatung and his team in the premises of ANSU office Itanagar.
This whole process was carried in large scale so that no fake students can take part in the election of ANSU. Out of 51 candidates, 9 have been declared winner unopposed. With the end of hearing process today, chief election commissioner declared that henceforth no complaint will be entertained as everybody was given enough time to present their grievances.

Physical assault on student leader condemned
ITANAGAR: The executive members of Dera Natung Government College Students’ Union condemned the physical assault on its General Secretary Tanya Agu at ESS sector, Itanagar on Feb 9 last. The union claimed that Agu was assaulted by the miscreants without any fault and valid reason at around 11 pm on that fateful day.
An FIR has been lodged at Itanagar Police Station in this regard, the union informed while demanding the authority to immediately arrest all the culprits involved in the shameful act.
